New tracks up on our 22Tracks page this week, featuring brand new music from The Baker Brothers, a couple from the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band including a re-release of their classic PIMP cover and two from Ephemerals too.
The Coup & Boots Riley come to Camden Town's Jazz Café in October. Myself and Chris Read on support duties.
Tickets available here.
The Coup is a band from Oakland, CA. Their music is an amalgamation of influences, including funk, punk, hip hop, and soul. Because of the lyrics of leader and frontman Boots Riley, they are often put into the category of political hip hop. The Coup is politically communist in its music and aligns itself with other radical music groups such as The Clash, Dead Prez and Rage Against the Machine. The group’s music is characterized by aggressive, yet danceable bass- driven backbeats overlaid by humorous, hopeful, and often witty lyrics- with a bent towards the literary- that critique, observe, and lampoon capitalism, American politics, patriarchal exploitation, police brutality, romance, working at fast food places, and being at cocaine parties with rich people, among other things.
New tracks up on our 22Tracks page this week, featuring new music from The Gene Dudley Group (one of their own and remix of a Lack of Afro track), a new single from Third Cost Kings (taken from their latest album), another Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens number from back in July and the absolutely banging Marco Polo remix of Lee Fields & the Expressions' 'Just Can't Win' released last week.
New tracks up on our 22Tracks page, with plenty of love for Daptone Records!
We start with 'Just Can't Win' taken from Lee Field's killer 'Emma Jean' LP, released back in June (Daptone Records). Then we have a bit of modern Gospel from Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens, with 'Bound from the Promised Land' and 'Sinner' taken from their recent LP 'Cold World', also released last month (Daptone Records). We take a sneak peak at The Budos Band's highly anticipated 4th album 'Burnt Offering' with a track entitled 'Sticks'. The album is due for release on 25th October 2014 (Daptone Records). Taking a slightly different direction with the new LP, we end with Laura Vane & The Vipertones' 'Delightfully Easy' taken from their recent 'BodyQuake' LP (Unique).

We have both sides of Beau Williams' super-soulful 'I'll Be Home Soon' / 'Outside Love' 7", strictly limited to just 500 copies on vinyl, released by Truth & Soul records.
Fresh back from our gigs at Glastonbury Festival, and having had the chance to watch crazy Adelaide-based instrumental afrobeat band The Shoalin Afronauts live, we had to feature the title track, 'Ojo Abameta' from their new EP, released last month on Freestyle Records.
Finally, a sneaky advance preview of album track 'You're Good To Me' taken from the mighty Weekend Sun's forthcoming album 'Forever Tomorrow' to be released by Hero Records on August 4 2014.
